NEXT COMP - OCTOBER 11th -

Join us for the next installment of our "Clip It or Whip It" member challenge!

It's a friendly members-only lead competition that's more about your head game than how hard you can climb.
The rules of the game are simple:

  • All routes are climbed on lead

  • One try per climb

  • You have 4 hours to climb all the routes in your category

Scoring

  • 2 points for clipping the anchor without any falls or takes

  • Updated! If you fall on a route, you still get points! Simply count how many quickdraws were clipped prior to the fall and you get .2 points per each. For example, falling after 3rd = .6 pts and falling after 6 = 1.2 pts.

  • -1 point for calling for a take

This challenge is designed to encourage you to try that move and overcome the fear of falling. You'll be surprised how much harder and further you can climb once you just start going for it.

Divisions
As this is an endurance competition, you won't be climbing at your max effort level, but rather climbing within your comfortable lead ability for four hours. No matter your skill level, there's a category for you. Each division will have a variety of routes and grades that are designed to be range between a warmup to a slight challenge for the skill level. Not sure what category is the right one or on the fence between grades? Challenge yourself and sign up for the harder category or ask for a second opinion from ryan@peakexperiences.com
The divisions break down as follows:

  • Recreational (for climbers leading 5.9 comfortably and into the 5.10s)

  • Intermediate (for climbers comfortable on 10s and projecting 11s)

  • Advanced (for climbers comfortable on 11s and projecting 12)

  • Open (for those climbing the hardest routes in the gym)

Each division will have a selection of roughly 20 or so climbs to tackle, so don't forget to strategize your climbing!
There will be prizes for the top scorers and for everyone else, complimentary post-climb (or post-whip) beers from our buds at Väsen Brewing!

If you have any questions, reach out to Ryan Akens at ryan@peakexperiences.com

Pricing is $15 per climber and Clip It or Whip It shirts are available for pre-sale and day of for $20.

This should be obvious, but you must be lead-climb and lead-belay certified at Peak Experiences in order to participate.

FAQ’s

    1. The event will kick off promptly at 3pm, and we recommend arriving at least 15 minutes ahead to get checked in, pick up a scorecard, and warm up. There will be about a 5 minute introduction at 3pm and then you will have 4 hours to complete your climbs. In the event of a tie, there will be a tie-breaker after the 4 hours is up to determine placing.

  • Bring everything you would bring for a regular lead climbing session (shoes, harness, rope, chalk bag, stoke) plus additional snacks and fluids to keep you fueled throughout the event.|

  • You don't need to bring a belayer and are welcome and encouraged to pair up with another climber in the comp. More often than not, competitors trade belays with many different belayers and get to meet new climbing partners. That being said, feel free to bring your own belayer as well!

  • While not strictly required, we do strongly suggest and encourage using an assisted belay device of some kind, remember, four hours of climbing and belaying is a lot of work!

  • Yes, but the competition area will be open only to competitors and those watching, those not taking part are welcome to boulder and climb in the auto-belay area.

From high-flying sends to heart-pounding whips, our Clip It or Whip It competition brought the energy, grit, and stoke! Climbers tested their skills on challenging lead routes, cheered each other on, and pushed limits in every possible way. Relive the action through this photo album, capturing the intensity, camaraderie, and downright impressive feats from a day of friendly (but fierce) competition.
